Well this country is a hellscape, but I don't think so. I looked at the website and the twitter account for the organisation behind the push of the petition, and they genuinely don't seem to be explicitly anti-trans. The original petition was just about stopping sex offenders from changing their name, so if there is any malice towards trans people, it's from the Home Office.
Which is plausible of course, but I guess we'll have to see what legislation gets put forward, and object accordingly. If the HO's stated aim is genuine, then there isn't really a need to continue with the practice of publishing the name change or, more importantly, the address of the individual.
I have no faith in this government, but surely they'd be forced to recognise that publishing the home address of people from a group that has frequently been targeted for discrimination and violence is a bad idea?
It would basically allow for the creation of a publicly available registry of trans people, there's no w

If it helps, it looks as though the petition got fuck all signatures, it only got 27,000. That's not even a third of my city. And the government replied in November and basically said "it's already illegal for criminals to change their name without notifying police. No need to amend the law with regard to changes of name".

>Yeah. I don't want to be alarmist but it does rather seem like this was done with a specific end in mind.

\*joker laugh\*

hmmm...I wonder?

Yeah. I don't want to be alarmist but it does rather seem like this was done with a specific end in mind.

I shall draw attention to the case *W, F, C and D* (minors) (Name changes disclosing gender reassignment and other matters) (Rev 1) \[2020\] EWHC 279 (QB) [https://www.familylawweek.co.uk/site.aspx?i=ed209284](https://www.familylawweek.co.uk/site.aspx?i=ed209284), where the high court held that publishing a trans child's name when enrolling the deed poll "would be a disproportionate interference with \[the child\]'s Art 8 rights", and "The same approach might be taken in relation to adults because the rights under the 2004 Act were not restricted to children"

>48. It is important to note of course that a name change does not operate to reassign the legal gender of any person even though it has social implications which may be taken to suggest gender reassignment.
>
>49. In terms of disposing of this application, in my judgment the publication of full details of the new and old names side by side on the internet and in the London Gazette would be a disproportionate interference wit

I hope you're right. After Bell v. Tavistock, I have great difficulty regarding the UK judiciary as anything other than its portrayal in *V for Vendetta*.

This seems like strong grounds for a lawsuit if it goes through. It would essentially force transgender people to publicly disclose their transgender status, which is a protected characteristic. Pretty strong violation of our rights under the law imo.

The DBS service already has a department devoted to processing transgender applicants information to protect our identities, so thats strong precedent for the need to protect our privacy.

TERFs have been happening in the UK. They will put trans women & amab enbies in gas chambers and trans men & afab enbies in femininity re-education camps if giving the necessary political power and allowed to do it by British society.

They’re a bunch of psychotic bullies bent on destroying trans people and transness in absolution and must be stopped by any means necessary. Otherwise they will gladly become the women of a new global fascist movement.

Might I suggest Australia? We're far from perfect, but we're a damn sight better than the UK or the US

Lately? UK has been a cesspit for at least a decade. Australia too. The US sucks, we're no Canada, but at least we're not the UK or Australia.

Next step is to force trans people to wear pink triangles in public. Wtf has been happening in the UK lately? And to think it was on my list of countries I considered moving due to transphobia in the US.

I wouldn't say *just* Tories. Joanna Cherry and her lovely little gang of TERFs are hijacking the SNP, and Starmer, who seems like a solid do-nothingist on anything of any consequence, runs the party that is doing absolutely nothing about Rosie Duffield.

Can Britain… just stop? Can they just… Brexit from this plane of existence, never to be seen again?

I'm glad to hear that. Good on you for being proactive.

I'm inclined to analyse this as a top-down act of class warfare. Trans Britons are extremely disproportionately likely to be in the working class both under a functional definition (i.e., the class of people who have nothing to sell but their ability to work) and a financial definition (i.e., the class of people with the least amount of money).

It's no coincidence that TERFism has support among Tories, the party of the upper and middle classes, and among the SNP and Labour Right, both groups of middle-class liberals. This is exterminationist action against trans people, with the intent of weakening eventual working-class pushback against the the current political state of affairs.

So in order to change your name in the UK, you have to fucking dox yourself

What the fuck is wrong with this country

Britain needs to just stop. Fuck England, all my homies hate England.

The push is synchronised worldwide. They want us gone everywhere.

Holy shit, Britain has actually become worse for trans people than Poland.

Yeah, that's the problem for me.

Courtesy of PayPal, my deadname is all over the internet. I resent it, especially when people comb through my account specifically to find it, but I'm used to it.

Publishing addresses, however... that's just outright malevolent.

I had to publish my name change, but my ADDRESS? That’s effing ridiculous. Horrible.

They've been making up shit about us "burning books," which I think is ironic because the first books the Nazis burned — on 7 May 1933 — were the archives of the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft (Institute for Sex Research), the gender clinic in Berlin where the concept of gender dysphoria was first formulated. They kind of just kept rolling after that.

Also, it's not just the UK. I'm currently residing in Australia, and the Liberal—National Coalition, the primary conservative bloc, is backing a similar push here, starting a couple of days ago. This is a simultaneous, worldwide push for our extermination, and it may well work.

WTF is this for kind if proposal?

I remember this. Everyone hates you, and the hate is deeply rooted into the width of the political spectrum, some people still fight for you but it's a headwind battle. Then the government restricts facilities that you need to use (December 2020), later on the government registers what you are, what defines you culturally. Everyone can see that in registers... just read the story about the Jewish, but also LGBTQ people during WWII to see how it ends

The UK is heading for a FUCKING HOLOCAUST!!!

Yeah, I had to do this in the great liberal state of New York. Apparently you can petition a judge to drop the requirement for your case. I was like whatever, I just want this done with and who TF reads the newspaper and knows my names anyways. It's still a stupid requirement I'd like to see go away/fight against implementing in other places though.

I get that. What I'm more worried about is the compulsory publishing of one's address. *That* seems like a deliberate move to incite violence.

I've just found out that the group pushing for this is the "Safeguarding Alliance," and given the use of "safeguarding" as a TERF euphemism lately, e.g. "safeguarding single-sex spaces for women and girls," that gives me some real bad vibes.

Wait, what? What kind of a requirement is that? Why would anyone even object to your new name?

Yeah we have this in Ontario, too. It's published in the Ontario Gazette, which is fully searchable online. The only consolation is that absolutely no one checks the Ontario Gazette and most people probably don't even know what it is.

Had to do this in the supposedly progressive Chicago, IL....

It's like this in most US states. Thing is no one reads Newspapers, and certainly not the section with name changes, marriages, births, and deaths.

Eh, that's how it is in some of the states. Have to publish your old name in the newspaper for a week incase anyone objects to it. It's cruel and inhumane, but doesn't surprise me.

I wouldn't say stupid. I'd say this is very intelligent and very intentional.

Excuse me WHAT NOW?! That's ridiculous. The UK is getting more stupid by the day.

You can start opposing [the Heritage Foundation](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Heritage_Foundation), the United States-based Christofascist hate group which is bankrolling the TERF movement in Britain, Australia and elsewhere.

This doesn't mean this is America's fault; I don't think the people doing this really consider themselves bound by the obligations of being American any more than they consider themselves British, Australian, German or any other nationality. They are wealthy and fascist — that's their "nation," more than anything else.

Can us Americans start dumping tea into harbors again and yelling fuck the British?

100%, the only difference will be paying another small fee to HMRC and filling out another form. You'll be no more or less anonymous...

The legal details change in Ireland is a simple process, but starts with deed poll, and then you can have your gender changed by signing statutory declaration.

I went through that, and of course you can find my dead name simply by using Google search.

Question is: do I actually care?
Not really.

The prospects for a second Scottish independence referendum seem to be increasing by the day, what with not only Brexit but the *Internal Market Bill*, which basically strips meaningful economic policy authority from the governments of all of the other (non-England) constituent countries.

I hope everyone in wales and Scotland would just leave that hell hole so they could be better off by themselves.

It really is a worldwide exterminationist push, isn't it?

OK. So I'm glad I'm out and this *shouldn't* be a problem for me. And I really do feel for people who are unable to come out for various reasons. I've been there, but I have been putting off legally changing it for a couple of months now due to finances. I'm doing it this month before they screw with the laws further.

I would hate for someone to break the name change system indefinitely. Just before I got around to making my name official.

God. Well, that doesn't surprise me, knowing governments. I'm sorry to hear it.

India already did this and built a portal which leaked literally everyone's details including addresses and phone numbers on day one.

In my country if you want to transition and change your name this has to happen and I’ve always found it problematic but never really said much about it.
I’m not sure about name changes alone but transitioning necessarily requires your address to be published which is very messed up.

Never considered that this was not really the case in other countries but if people can fight it I sure as heck hope you all do.

UK Government proposals will out trans people
