Popsicle sticks safe in chew toys?

I've seen some hanging toys made for rabbits that include chunky wooden beads, big wooden shapes, and Popsicle sticks. My concern is that a bun would snap the Popsicle sticks easily and it would break with sharp edges (as they generally do) and it could hurt the rabbit.

Has anyone used toys with Popsicle sticks as a chew toy with their buns?

I am looking to make some toys myself right now and Popsicle sticks are cheap & it's easy to make a hole in them etc, but I want to know that they're safe.
