i did but it says its an important part of windows... but my pc got extremely slow and i cant even look through my photos without insane lag

Have you installed some type of File Explorer utility?

It won't.

It won't harm your computer if you end the task. Your taskbar will just disappear and then come back again, along with the task.
See if this makes any noticeable difference.
