The High Sparrow and Young Griff (Spoilers Extended)
I recently posted about the potential foreshadowing for fAegon/Young Griff becoming king. I avoided getting into the how, mainly because there is so little evidence for it happening as it is, the manner in in which it takes place is quite hard to theorize about.
So this is a completely speculative post about a potential way in which the Aegon VI takes King's Landing in TWOW.
The High Sparrow is going to let Young Griff into King's Landing and then crown him Aegon VI.
By the time that Young Griff takes Storm's End and then smashes Mace's army in the field, the King's Landing plot will have drastically changed. That said, the ruling force (likely Cersei) should be well aware of the approaching army.
This army will consist of the Golden Company and I am guessing some of forces from the Stormlands and the Reach and likely all of Dorne (through Arianne) or less likely the Vale Knights (through Sansa).
There are still numerous characters with competing agendas (Sand Sneks, Qyburn, etc.) but the main power is the Faith/High Sparrow/Faith Militant.
Let's look at what happened when Aegon I arrived at Oldtown (keep in mind the High Septon resided in Oldtown then, bc well.. King's Landing was basically a wooden fort.
Yet when Aegon Targaryen and his host approached Oldtown, they found the city gates open, and Lord Hightower waiting to make his submission. As it happened, when word of Aegon's landing first reached Oldtown, the High Septon had locked himself within the Starry Sept for seven days and seven nights, seeking after the guidance of the gods. He took no nourishment but bread and water, it was said, and spent all his waking hours in prayer, moving from one altar to the next. And on the seventh day, the Crone had lifted her golden lamp to show him the path ahead. If Oldtown took up arms against Aegon the Dragon, His High Holiness saw, the city would surely burn, and the Hightower and the Citadel and the Starry Sept would be cast down and destroyed. -TWOIAF, The Reign of the Dragons: The Conquest
and:
Manfred Hightower, Lord of Oldtown, was a cautious lord, and godly. One of his younger sons served with the Warrior's Sons, and another had only recently taken vows as a septon. When the High Septon told him of the vision vouchsafed him by the Crone, Lord Hightower determined that he would not oppose the Conqueror by force of arms. Thus it was that no men from Oldtown burned on the Field of Fire, though the Hightowers were bannermen to the Gardeners of Highgarden. And thus it was that Lord Manfred rode forth to greet Aegon the Dragon as he approached, and to offer up his sword, his city, and his oath. (Some say that Lord Hightower also offered up the hand of his youngest daughter, which Aegon declined politely, lest it offend his two queens). -TWOIAF, The Reign of the Dragons: The Conquest
But wait you say, Aegon I had dragons and Young Griff doesn't (yet lol)... well, the threat of dragons still exists (and news has already reached KL and Oldtown). We also know that visions aren't always literal and direct.
So this part gets a bit foily:
Maybe the High Septon saw Oldtown burning, but it wasn't Aegon I's burning, but Euron's:
I saw towers by the sea, submerged beneath a black and bloody tide. -ADWD Melisandre I
and then this is replicated by the current High Sparrow who sees King's Landing burning if he doesn't "let in the dragons", but what he actually saw was the burning of King's Landing by dragonflame/wildfire.
A little tinfoily, since the "power" of the Seven seems pretty tame compared to that of other "gods" (aka sources of magic).
So due to a vision of King's Landing burning, the High Sparrow opens the gates of King's Landing for Young Griff.
TLDR: Reminiscent of Aegon I/Oldtown, the High Sparrow lets Young Griff into King's Landing.
