Choosing leather for tote straps

I need to choose either 1" veg tanned or chrome tanned latigo straps for a medium sized tote bag of 5/6 oz veg tanned leather. Is there a difference in comfort of the straps over time or will it not matter much? Will 8--9 or 9-10 oz be optimal for the 1" width? I appreciate the help, thank you.
