Starting a new game

Hello my fellow galactic dominating friends, I’m coming back to x4, gonna start a new game tomorrow, and I’m wondering where is best to start. Should I use the beta version or not?

I want to use some mods but have no idea if it being a beta patch would mess up the mods. Main mod is VRO, with the expanded sectors and no highway.

Does anyone know if that would work on beta? And is beta the way to go? Thanks all
