How does one play more seamlessly?

I was under the impression that I was getting better at bass, and I had found a more efficient way to record and listen to my bass tracks. So I recorded myself playing a walking bassline, when I listened to the recording after, I found that I was in fact playing very poorly, pretty choppy and just overall, not smoothly.
