AITA - for getting pissy at my parents for not caring about cats in sub-zero temps...

Not the A-hole

Me (30f) - have a bit of a sordid relationship with my parents (60's) which at present, with boundaries is 'OK'.

They live in the middle of nowhere in the UK (literally on a mountainside) and have 3 cats and a dog (relevant). My parents have (in my eyes) have always had a VERY relaxed attitude towards pet care, mostly an 'its an animal, stop making a fuss, it'll be alright' approach, although there were many instances where their actions definitely were very cruel and if I was older at the time I would have done something about it, but knew no better when it was happening. Thinking back to these examples makes me feel quite ill.

This week (and tonight especially) is EXTREMELY cold in the UK - (-5C where they are currently). Rivers have frozen over and ice is prevalent.

They have 1 'house cat' and the dog is in the house. I messaged my Dad tonight asking whether the other two cats (who mostly reside in a large unconverted (derelict) barn) were being kept inside (at least to a warmer part of another outbuilding) - to which he ignored my question and weirdly send me a picture of the open fire he was next to (obviously a strange distraction technique).

I then asked again and he ignored. I asked again and my Dad responded saying 'its warmer tonight that other nights' - which I felt was a horrifically ignorant and frustrating.

After a while, and knowing they probably think I am over acting - I send him another text (all polite) - basically saying that I hope that he has it somewhere in his heart to consider allowing the barn cats in the house overnight - that the cats can't tell them (my parents) what they need and that even though they had survived other, very cold nights, they are both senior (12+) and even if they don't die - they would be suffering in this weather). I included a couple of more points such as they wouldn't leave the dog out there etc etc (although they used to 5 years ago in a cage but that is another story....).

AMITA here for pushing this? I have a niggling thought that i'm being a somewhat dramatic - but my heart is also saying very strongly that its so inherently wrong to have the responsibility of animals to literally just leave them to suffer.
