Stealing in The Show

Highlight :snoo_dealwithit:

I need to vent real quick - I think it's bullshit you can receive negative stealing points in RTTS even when you successfully steal a base. That should automatically reverse what the computer is going to penalize you for. I get the computer is ALL about timing but - if you beat the odds and complete a successful steal... c'mon. I don't want just speed points, I want my steal points to increase as well. This happens like 50% of the time and that is way too damn high.

I agree. The bonus or penalty is determined by how good of a jump you get. I hate getting dinged for running on a 3-2 2 out pitch.

Lol, downvoted? For what?

TribeBrownsCavs93•

You can get downvoted for anything on this sub lol. Truly one of the most toxic on Reddit I feel. Unless you come in here saying concept card good shippett bad expect the worst

14
Kingsley014•

I got downvoted once for pointing out a bug that lost me a ranked seasons game some time ago. This sub is really something else lol.

After TD was banned, yes this became the most toxic subreddit. :)

TD?

TribeBrownsCavs93•

Lmao you got downvoted for agreeing with a couple people that got upvoted for saying pretty much the same thing. Case and point

Agreed. Does anyone else get the glitch in RTTS where you lose reaction stats when you're playing outfield and the opposing team hits a no-doubter? That shit always makes me mad.

29
GradientPerceptionOP•

Yes! I actually found out how to best that glitch too. Try immediately running towards the home run. It works like 98% of the time and you’ll get a positive reaction instead.

I actually made a post about that to help anyone else that was facing that bullshit.

8
TyberiusAsher•

Oh nice! I had no idea. I'll definitely try that out

txlandshark•

My favorites is when I got caught stealing but it the coach told me to go. I got like a 15 speed rating CPU, this was your horrible decision.

17
GradientPerceptionOP•

That is sadly funny but I’m not sure if you knew this - you will not get dinged if you decide to ignore your coach.

8
txlandshark•

Are you trying to say I shouldn’t be a team player? LOL

8
GradientPerceptionOP•

Lol, never! Sometimes the call by the coach is just an awful suggestion. It’s like they want to see you fail sometimes for their amusement, lol.

4
Thumps07•

Same thing with hits. If I record a base hit who cares if it was weak?

9
GradientPerceptionOP•

Great point!

8
DrSchmiggles1717•

There's honestly no point in stealing/baserunning in this game lol

7

I disagree, many times I have stolen second with two outs with the following batter hitting an outfield single and driving me in to score. However doing this often will sort of fuck up the RISP avg for the hitter behind you.

5
DrSchmiggles1717•

To each their own. I respect your opinion, but this game favors power and plate vision.

1

Yes most definitely, those are what I focus on first but with the diamond level equipment cheaply available in the community market, it’s easy to make a power hitter who also is quite fast, so any base stealing opportunity is worth considering especially if you have solid batters behind you in the lineup. I usually only bother with it either early in the game to try and get early points or otherwise in close game situations. I also take the matchup into account, as well as the pitchers windup animation. There are some who wind up so slowly from the stretch that it feels wrong to not steal second if not third (Tanaka comes to mind, but there are plenty others)

1
DrSchmiggles1717•

Ya, I just use the off days/training days to boost only speed/BR as it's easy to lvl up contact/power/vision when playing the game.

1
GradientPerceptionOP•

The only reason is to make your personal player more well rounded, other than that - you’re right!

2
zerovanillacodered:phillies2:•

I disagree, actually. If you get a bad jump but the catcher drops the ball, that’s result-oriented thinking. You still had a bad jump.

The only place where I agree is a runners going situation. I hate being docked for that.

7
GradientPerceptionOP•

If I get the bag, even on a bad jump...that is a steal. There is no if ands or buts about it. A steal is a steal whether you had a bad or good jump.

4

Okay you get credited with a steal but you got a bad jump so your stealing should go down. The game is programmed right

2
GradientPerceptionOP•

Boom, if I get credited the steal - end of story. The game wants to be real in just about everything and this is one of the aspects of the game that isn’t.

0

Okay but you got a bad jump so regardless of if you got the steal or not, your jump rating should go down. A bad jump shouldn’t cause your jump rating to increase just because you got safe

0
zerovanillacodered:phillies2:•

If I run a red light but make it through the intersection, that doesn’t justify me running the red light.

1
GradientPerceptionOP•

What an awful example, lol.

1
zerovanillacodered:phillies2:•

It demonstrates properly the issue with result-oriented thinking

0
TheYardFlamingos•

What's awful about that example? It translates perfectly. Part of stealing is decision-making. Dumb decisions can work out but it doesn't make the decision any less dumb. If you do something with a 90% failure rate, you'll still succeed 10% of the time, but it doesn't mean you didn't just do something risky.

Another example: if someone plays Russian Roulette with their buds and survives, they're still an idiot. "But Mom I lived! Why are you mad?"

J3didrRays are underated :rays:•

I could care less with my 99 stealing attribute, but it does suck

3
JoelTheGreatOne•

Stealing against CPU in this game is just ridiculous. It’s so hard that I have to turn off sliders for pick offs and I hate stealing against cpu in DD.

1
GradientPerceptionOP•

Yeah, it’s nuts. What sucks is some moments are slowed down so it’s easier for you to get back to the bag but then randomly, the game will skip that and just go full speed. It makes me hold my joystick towards the bag more often because of that bull, lol.

1

No it’s not, it makes perfect sense. If you get a terrible jump but the catcher drops the ball, you still got a terrible jump. The result of safe or out shouldn’t matter.

1
GradientPerceptionOP•

Bro, if the game is to be like real life...a steal is a steal. Yes, if you get the bag without being out - that is a steal. Doesn’t matter how bad your jump is. You’re entirely missing the point.

0

How am I missing the point? You’re getting bad jumps and then complaining that your jump rating is going down. The result of the play should never matter. If you got a bad jump and get safe your jump rating should still go down. If you get a good jump and get out your jump rating should still go up.

By your logic a broken bat single should cause an increase in contact because you got a hit but a 400 foot robbed home run should result in a decrease in contact because you got out.

0
GradientPerceptionOP•

You are 100% missing the point. Also - it’s stealing, not jumping. When you get steal a bag in real life, you aren’t rated based on your jump. There is literally no statistic that measures that.

I don’t think you understand real life baseball. A broken bat hit would still be a hit in real life and in real life - you can make good contact with the ball and break a bat. However in the game - it’s not possible.

The game wants to be realistic but there are aspects of the game that are completely unrealistic in the way it measures stats.

1

You 100% don’t know how game ratings work. The ratings aren’t statistics or grades. They’re attributes. Meaning that it affects how good your player is. It isn’t a grade of your player. Or your players stats.

The “steal” rating on the game ONLY affects how good of a jump you get. So the “steal” rating is basically a “jump” rating. It has nothing to do with getting safe or out.

I under real life baseball. You’re the one that doesn’t. Bats don’t break on good contact. They break when you get jammed or hit it off the end of the bat.

The game measures stats perfectly. Your just getting ratings and stats confused.

Pvt_Boomer•

I was playing rtts the other day with my pitcher and got -reaction on a foul ball. lol

1
GradientPerceptionOP•

Like a pitch you threw and the batter fouled off...then you were given a negative reaction for that? That’s crazy, lol.

1
Pvt_Boomer•

Yeah, literally made no sense. He fouled it off but I was allowed to move my player even though it was a fouls ball right away and I got negative reaction

1
GradientPerceptionOP•

This game sometimes, lol.

1
Pvt_Boomer•

Oh yeah, I also forgot to mention I was throwing a perfect game going into the ninth and they pulled me. I have proof on my ps4 and I can show you tomorrow if you don’t believe me lol

1

How tf can you steal bases without your team hitting? Every time I steal the person up to bat always lines out or pops out.
