Career switch

I am coming to 40 in 2 years time. A bit of background, I have a chemical engineering from NUS, no honours, and after graduation it was in 2009. I could not get into chemical engineering role, currently have been working as compliance officer for a SME chemical company.

Pay is low given 10 years of experience and a local degree, but work is manageable.

The thing is I feel my degree has been wasted not working in a related role.

Recently I have been checking on chemical engineering Reddit community, and the work they are doing is quite interesting.

Though I think I am too old to consider switching to the engineering field, and starting all over again.

Any advice?
