What a legend 💪. Im kinda mad though that they didnt put the final on in the last few days so there would be a crowd there to watch it, also it sucks they started it so late and while rafa and stefanos were still playing.
He requested the match be played after the Rafa / Tsitsipas one and AO granted the request.
Oh i see, still sucks that the QF match went so long and we missed most of the first set.
They were scheduled to play on RLA, but when the 5th set started, they moved them to MCA
Is this guy streets ahead of other players? Never tried watching wheelchair tennis
Stop trying to make it happen, pierce
It’s always tough classifying athletes by disability fairly, but Alcott barely qualifies for quad because of a relatively minor hand injury from a bar accident. So while he’s obviously very skilled, players like Schroder and Wagner have a higher level of impairment both on the tennis court and in their everyday life.
Alcott was supposed to be re-classified to the men’s singles division a few years back but it seems like nothing came of that.
Some may find it harsh to bring it up, but it’s a fair aspect of the conversation that frequently comes up in Paralympic competition.

I like him as a disability advocate but I agree. Often he's playing against people who need to have the racquet strapped to their hand because they can't grip it.
Sorry don't mind me if it's very basic
What's the difference between wheelchair and quad wheelchair?
Wheelchair is for any wheelchair user with loss of function in their lower body, and is split into men’s and women’s divisions.
Quad wheelchair is for players with substantial loss of function in at least one upper limb. Due to their decreased mobility compared to wheelchair players, quad players are permitted to tape their rackets to their hand and even use electric wheelchairs, since they may not have the upper body mobility to push their chair.
Thanks, got it!
I’m no expert on it either, but watching him play it’s clear he’s a league above everyone else. For what it’s worth, he has won 12 out of the last 15 Wheelchair Quads singles slams.
David Wagner has a monopoly on the Masters tournament, with 11 Masters championships. However looking at the record books, it looks as though Alcott doesn’t compete in them every time, as he missed both 2017 and 2016
Insane stats. Is there anything to stop a non disabled player competing in wheelchair doubles?
I was reading up on it earlier tonight, and there’s different classifications on what level of disability you have. Open, and Quads. More information here.
So yes, a non disabled player wouldn’t be able to compete, as a disability is required. But tbh I think they’d get absolutely creamed anyway, as the wheelchair is an extension of your body for you whole life, and a non disabled person in a chair would really struggle with the movements
This quad wheel chair tennis is an interesting one. You can only play who they put in front of you, but in previous years there have only been 4 competitors total. So basically you start at the semis.
This year it’s expanded to 8 competitors total but yeah, quite a limited draw
Oh wow I had no idea about that lol
what is the prize money for wheelchair quads?
it's not listed on the website
Why thinking of breaking your legs and joining the tourney?
might be better than staring at excel all day, i'm already in a chair at least
Same as main draw.
i doubt that
Shame he's such an obnoxious wanker.
Aren't those ANZ ads great, even more when they are on 15 times an hour
I have to mute it.
