Rectal mucous discharge

Need help for my 90 yo uncle who has an ostomy for 1 year. He has excessive clear mucous discharge from the rectum. Begins later in the day and early evening . He’s an old timer so getting into the bathroom quick is not an option. He wears a pad but it’s still messy and time consuming to clean up. He can have this happen up to 5 times / day. Anyone ever try a tampon or rectal plug? Seems like there are products for this issue available in Canada or Europe only. Would an enema help? Any suggestions are very appreciated . Thanks
