CC Hair recolor help

I've been trying to recolor hair in Photoshop so I don't have to wait for modders to come out with their own hair recolors using both the Sandwich actions by WMS and the Sorbet/Elderberries actions by NoodlesCC. Whenever I try to use the actions though, it colors even the parts that have to remain transparent, so when I go to import to S4S, it colors the entire body, not just the hair. I've looked at so many tutorials trying to fix it, but no matter what, it doesn't work unless I manually erase anything that wasn't supposed to be colored which takes a while and would take forever with just how many actions there are for all the hair colors. I genuinely can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

The steps I'm doing:

1. Isolate the white hair I want to recolor
2. Export as .dds file
3. Open in Photoshop and play action
4. Save with DTX5 compression
5. Import the recolored hair to S4S

It does give me a warning for the action when I do this, but I don't know how to fix that, either. Just doing these steps, it stops on the action that selects the background layer because there is no background layer. It opens without one.

Anyone have any idea how to fix it?
