Secondary builds on BB's still worth it?

Question

I've skilled my Tirpitz on Secondary skills (but without the -35% dispersion skill), but so far, I'm not impressed by the performance of the secondaries. I'm still looking into skilling the Massa and Georgia for secondaries, but the other 3 and 4 point options seem more viable. Any opinions on this would be much appreciated.

I would have to say no, unless you have a special captain for them (Lutjens/Halsey), which I don't. Even then, I'm not sure.

I still like em. Ranked out with a 75% win rate on Pommern/Georgia

I've been having some fun with secondary-build Lutjens on my Scharnhorst. Above T7 it's usually not worth it, which I'm pretty bummed about. Bismarck and Tirpitz with secondaries used to be my go-to ships if I just wanted to have a good time. Lutjens with Prinz Eitel Friedrich has also been kinda fun.

Edit: grammar

USN secondary builds are just fine and maybe even better than pre commander rework since they usually didn’t use manual secondaries anyway.

I’m not sure why you would say you have skilled your German Bb’s for secondaries and not take manual secondaries as that is essential.

To make up for damage production lost by the accuracy reduction of manual secondaries in rework, close quarters combat is a must to get the better reload on main guns.

All in all though the fact remains that secondary brawling builds while fun weren’t super effective before the rework and aren’t the most effective build after the rework.

I have built my Ohio to secondaries, other than the disp increase on target, with the 4pt heal skill and fire prevention. It's a blast if you get halsey to proc. 8x457mm with 17 sec reload is nasty.

People will tell you not to build the Georgia for secondaries, but in my opinion the ship is accurate enough at sniping and fast enough and maneuverable enough on its own, where you can spec into secondaries and still be effective at all ranges.

Yes they are worth it.

It's not worth it right now. I've tested secondary builds with Kurfurst a lot since skill rework. Matchmaking decides if you can play or not, it's actually very miserable experience. I've had games where I do 100k damage with secondaries, but those are like 1 in 20 games.

On the other hand Scharnhorst and Prinz Eitel Friedrich work really well with secondary build (I use Lutjens). This is simply because in lower tier games there is much less high caliber HE spam. I dont think having secondary build with Tirpitz is worth it because of MM and t10 HE spam ships.

PEF with secondary spec in scenarios is hilarious fun as well.

Yep - charge in with both sides lighting up is a laugh.

Any advice for which secondary build to use with Scharn?

Sweet. Thanks! Can I make this work if I don't have a 21 pt commander?

You could drop concealment expert and play around it

No, unless you build them to only start fires. They are completely useless on German BBS cause they can’t hit anything

Don't know why you're being down voted, this is my experience in my GK. Maybe they're still fine on American premiums but in my GK I got a decent % of hits in 1 out of 10 games. I've been in 4+ minute long brawls with multiple targets under 9km and come out with sub 70 secondary hits and anemic damage. German BBs in this meta should spec for survivability i.e. the Noster recommendations imo.

Edit: don’t know why I’m being downvoted as well, just relating my experience and opinion as a GK player.
