Letters to Satan

Greetings from the world upstairs,

the world of suffering, of loss and despair.

Desperately I write to you, my intentions only friendly,

for the refuge I seek I cannot find within your enemy.

How are things there, on the throne of the dead?

Do the flames scortch flesh like the scripture said?

Is there a deep moaning and a gritting of the teeth?

What's it like observing all man's sins from underneath?

Up here we're all lost and know not from where our strength will come,

and the suffering seems equivalent if not worse than the world you're from.

Does it not get lonesome, down there where you stay?

Do you not grow tired of burning souls who did not pray?

Are you not angry, at the one who threw you out? From questioning his authority, from expressing your doubt.

These questions I ask, and I await your reply.

Or you could tell me in person, when I see you after I die.
