Making a cryptocurrency, Help needed

Hello, hope you're all doing well.

In my university project, we were tasked with making a cryptocurrency with its own blockchain. Forking existing coins is allowed. But without prior knowledge, the task seems impossible.

Can anyone with previous experience guide me through the general process and give tips on which coin should I base on or some tutorials? Thank you
