I can dig it!
👍
Hey all!
This is my first ever design. I've had these prototypes for a while now and made my notes. Now I'm looking for some feedback from the community.
A couple of the minor issues have already been addressed and will be changed for the second revision.
Some specs
*Blade-M390
*Blade thickness- .155"
*Blade length- 3.43"
*Blade grind- hollow (rev 2)
*Handle- Titanium
*Handle thickness- .545"
*Handle length- 4.51"
*Weight- 4.3oz (but will probably change when the grind goes from flat to hollow in Rev 2)
*Manufactured in China
I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts on it, both positive and negative. I'm also more than happy to provide more pictures and answer questions too! While we're at it, I still haven't decided on a name I absolutely love so feel free to throw some suggestions my way! I love the knife community and I want for this and future projects to be at least partially influenced by the community.
Thank you for your time!
Edit: forgot to add the weight
Love the blade shape. Thumb hole seems a little long compared to the blade length. And not a fan personally of the “skinny” handle. Coming from a complete amateur!
I second all this. Would prefer the handle to follow the grind line of the blade for a fuller feel. Perhaps also move the pivot closer to the spine to allow for a forward choil so no space goes unused. What's the weight?
A lot of that is personal preference though and comes from someone who's never made a knife. Overall looks really good and I'm a sucker for a hollow wharncliff. Looks great.
I just added the weight to my original comment. I'm sure a lot of the suggestions I won't be able to implement in this design due to the overall shape and size but I'm already working on my second design which has plenty of flexibility as of now
The whole design is conceptualized around every line and contour sharing some sort of relation to another. The hole in the blade is actually the blade shape but shrunk down and at least for me, is placed and shaped perfectly for thumb and middle finger flicking. The handle is skinny partially for aesthetic reasons but mostly for blade hole access. It still ends up fitting perfectly in my (XL glove size) hands. I'm not expecting everyone to love it though. You'd probably end up liking my 2nd (still in progress) design more if you prefer beefier handles
I honestly love the design! If I had to find something to nit pick I would say the handle looks a bit thick but it might feel better in hand that way. I also would like to see a flipper less version but the flipper tab doesn't seem that intrusive.
Any idea when they'll be out for production? I definitely want to try it out
Thank you! The handle is thicker to help fill out the hands since it's pretty skinny height wise. It's still very unobtrusive in the pocket. I don't yet have a solid release date set but I'm hoping to have it in production by the end of this year!
It looks good. But, it looks way too similar to the WE Fornix.
I'm unfamiliar with that model but I just looked it up. I can see the similarities. Do you know when that model came out? Because I started designing this over a year ago
Judging from their website, it appears it released in January.
January of this year, or last? I guess it doesn't really matter too much either way since I started working on this in late 2019
That is a very handsome knife, man. Very nice.
Thank you! I just designed something exactly to my taste and I hope others will like it too 👍
Looks great!
Thanks!
Looks nice to me
Thank you! I personally really like it (obviously) but I think my second design is probably gonna appeal to more since it'll be unique within the production knife market
Do you have a pic of that one?
Not as of right now since I'm still in the process of 3D modeling it. What I can say though is, integral button lock that'll be focused around ease of maintenence and customization
