Social struggles: It’s hard to be taken seriously

Questions/Advice/Support

I usually have soo much to say but all my thoughts rush in at once, that by the time I’m in the middle of my sentence...I get distracted by a new thought and forget the previous one.

I end up stuttering

fumbling my words

just...saying something...anything...which often does not benefit me socially

I take very long pauses

Look out into space

I get especially teased for using “umm” and “like” a lot to fill the awkward silence. Thanks to that valley girl/dumb blond trope associated with using “like” and “umm” a lot. It doesn’t help that I throw in “literally” when I’m really struggling to spice it up sometimes.

If I’m not perceived as ditzy, then I’m perceived as a nervous wreck... and people pity me...

I get teased or brushed off and spoken to as if I’m a child.

Alternatively, if I just blurt out whatever, I have a “big mouth” “bad attitude” etc.

I hope I’m not the only one with this problem.

Please share your own struggles and any tips to deal with this! Thank you.
