What was the purpose or industry of Crydee?

I'm a big fan of the first Feist trilogy, and have read some of the later stuff too, but this map, by u/Kapak27, got me thinking. Why was Crydee established for?

It seems to have been surrounded by forest, and as far as I can recall, there is no mention of farms or villages around it. There is the Crydee town, next to the castle, but that it is.

So if it's not a farming centre, what is it for?

Maybe for ships to resupply on their way West, except I don't think any ships go further west than Crydee.

It seems to me that it is nothing more than the westernmost outpost in the Kingdom, and therefore it should really just be a simple fort with a garrison, and not the home of an heir to the throne.

I've probably missed something though, so I'd love to hear your thoughts!
