What really kills the fun is coming back out from the store or restaurant or bathroom and your bike is missing. I have over $2k invested in my Rad. It’s not absurd to spend $100-$200 to secure it. Some people are just more security minded. I worked security for a number of years so that’s the way my brain is wired.
I'm a big believer in shitty Masterlock 3 pack locks with the same key. That said, I've had bunches of bicycles stolen over the years, sometimes from negligence and sometimes because I left the bike in a place for too long. I used to leave my pretty nice beach cruiser for days during our local drunken week long festival without it ever getting stolen. Nowadays, more bikes are getting stolen and I don't do this any more.
My Rad is the most expensive bike I've owned, and I have a mid-priced gnarley lock that will take an angle grinder to cut through it. So, it's not likely to be stolen in front of a grocery store during business hours. I also have the aforementioned shitty Masterlock cable lock when I gel and forget the other lock or need to do something quick where it is just a deterrent.
