Orys Baratheon and Jaime Lannister (Spoilers Extended)

EXTENDED

I've posted before about how Jaime is improving with his left hand, as well as how he compares to characters like Brandon Stark.

In this post I would like to compare some events in Jaime's life that compare with Orys Baratheon.

Orys Baratheon (the bastard brother of Aegon the Conqueror), had his swordhand removed by the Wyl of Wyl before being ransomed. Upon his return he resigned as Hand stating:

The King's Hand should have a hand. I will not have men speaking of the King's Stump. -Fire & Blood, Reign of the Dragon: The Wars of King Aegon I

Compared to what Jaime says to Cersei when offered:

Jaime hugged her, his good hand pressing against the small of her back. He smelled of ash, but the morning sun was in his hair, giving it a golden glow. She wanted to draw his face to hers for a kiss. Later, she told herself, later he will come to me, for comfort. "We are his heirs, Jaime," she whispered. "It will be up to us to finish his work. You must take Father's place as Hand. You see that now, surely. Tommen will need you . . ."

He pushed away from her and raised his arm, forcing his stump into her face. "A Hand without a hand? A bad jape, sister. Don't ask me to rule." -AFFC, Cersei I

Now lets look at what the vengeance taken for these action:

Vargo Hoat:

"One of the captives was always begging food," Rafford admitted, "so Ser said to give him roast goat. The Qohorik didn't have much meat on him, though. Ser took his hands and feet first, then his arms and legs."

"The fat bugger got most, m'lord," Shitmouth offered, "but Ser, he said to see that all the captives had a taste. And Hoat too, his own self. That whoreson 'ud slobber when we fed him, and the grease'd run down into that skinny beard o' his." -AFFC, Jaime III

Walter Wyl (son of the Wyl of Wyl):

When Walter Wyl was delivered into his hands, wounded but alive, Lord Orys said, "Your father took my hand. I claim yours as payment." So saying, he hacked off Lord Walter's sword hand. Then he took his other hand and both his feet as well, calling them his "usury". -Fire & Blood: Songs of the Dragon

Obviously Jaime didn't take part in Vargo's demise (he does have Vargo's head thrown in the God's Eye) , but Jaime is still looking for the Zollo:

If any of Hoat's Brave Companions fall into your hands, send word to me at once." The Stranger might have made off with the Goat before Jaime could get around to him, but fat Zollo was still out there, with Shagwell, Rorge, Faithful Urswyck, and the rest. -AFFC, Jaime III

TLDR: Jaime Lannister and Orys Baratheon react to their maiming very similar and a similar fate is met by the perpetrator or perpetrator's heir
