Can anyone explain the magazine/reloading logic?

Question

Lets say you go in with 3 mags of good ammo. You kill a Scav, and loot 3 mags of crappy ammo.

When you press R to reload, which mag goes in the gun?

Does it just go by position in inventory, like top-left first? Does it go by expense/quality? How full it is?

I'm just curious what the process is behind the scenes, so I don't screw myself over by loading crap ammo or an empty mag.

It checks which mag is full and works left-right. Top-down.

You can also hot key them so you can load specific mags if you remember what ammo is in which mag.

What this guy said. Grenade throws prioritize pockets first, left to right, then rig, top left to right or left to right.

Not quite true for vests, those are more complicated. In the belt a+ belt B rig, it uses the interior double slots left right, top bottom before the exterior single slots

Thanks.

Also. It goes by rounds in mag. If all your ‘good ammo’ mags have 29 rounds in them and the ‘bad ammo’ mags have 30 it’ll load the bad mags. If they’re equal top left to right etc

I assume "top left" means Rig gets priority over pockets, right?

Or would a 10/10 in my pocket override a 29/30 in my rig?

Pockets get priority. Also left to right for pockets as well.

Pockets would get priority IF they have the same number of rounds. So10/10 in pockets goes before 10/60 in rig.

If I pick up mags off scavs that work in my gun but have crappy ammo I always put them in the backpack instead of the rig, that way you can't load them into your gun by mistake.

I believe you can hold r and scroll to manually select the mag you want

True, but in a firefight, we're all just going to smash R and keep shooting.

Knowing the logic means I can manage my inventory so the correct mag is selected when that happens.
