This started a few months ago, but it's getting ridiculous. I keep having to screenshot and do other things to keep track of where I'm up to.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

My audible app has had this terrible habit for quite some time and it drove me absolutely crazy. For a long time I did the same thing as you, with screen shots, but then I discovered the bookmark button! And since bookmarking my place every time I have no problem going to where I left off when it decides to inexplicably start the book over. I hope it can help you too!
Edit to add that I also use an android phone
I have the same issue. Android 10, 4.4.205-perf+. It will reset the book when I plug it into Android Auto. This used to happen with my Mazda, now it happens regularly with my VW.

I have a similar issue - I go to play an audiobook I've been listening to, and it pops up the "review page", saying "you're finished! Here's some others you might like next" etc. Yet..I'm only halfway through the book. If I tap cancel, it'll bring me back to the place I was in the audiobook. Not overly disruptive, just annoying!!
Yeah mine started like that, then started actually setting it to finished.
No chance you’ve got a Bluetooth device (headphones or something) that are continuing to play the book even when you think you’ve finished listening?

Android Oppo phone.
Never had issues until recently. I tried to uninstall the app, reinstall it and then re-download all my books again.
Few days later it set my book to finished again. Sometimes it doesn't rewind the book to the start, but every single book upon reloading it again tries to get me to 'rate it' because it thinks I finished it.
So it seems to somehow think I've finished and need to rate all my books all the time and from time to time it rewinds said book to the start.
