Anyone family with classic sitcom scripts and how the audience is cued?

I'm writing a (classic 90s style) sitcom script (just for fun, I'm going to film it with my friends). Should I write in the audience cues, like where the audience is supposed to react? Right now I just have an abbreviation for when I want applause or laughter. Is it supposed to be an actual stage direction? I only ask because that is going to add length to my script.
