Buying yarn and at checkout there are options for winding and washing, what is that for?

Anyone order from Colourmart and know what the extra options mean? They say the yarn comes on a 150g cone, then there are additional options for:

1. "Wind" (yes or no), and "piles" (2-12)
2. "1 yard skein (hank) wind and wash" (yes/no) and "weight" (25, 50, 75g)
3. 1 yard skein (hank) wind without washing" (yes/no) and "weight" (25, 50, 75g)

They originally come on cones, so wind will refer to putting it in a ball instead? And washing is because of the oils because it's for knitting machines originally but what do the piles and weight specifications mean?
