Hogarth, a precocious boy, makes friends with a giant metal man who fell to earth from space in this send up to mid-century atomic scare films. Shockingly, this incredibly animated film failed to resonate with movie goers upon its release which, like ever other film I make these comments on, just stupefies me. I went to see its original run and then again a few years ago when Warner Brothers rereleased this Signature Edition in theaters. Picking up the large Collector’s Edition box set was a no-brainer.

So - Theatrical Release vs. Signature Edition? Honestly, the Theatrical’s MAP of 91.78 is too close to call, that’s less than 2 points between them. It’s been a while since I watched it but I couldn’t point my finger to any grand differences between the two film off the top of my head so, each seem as good as the other.

As I don’t keep the movies’ score cards, I don’t have anything beyond the score to refer to. Watching two nearly identical versions of a film many months apart and coming up with near identical scores just goes a long way to demonstrating how un-arbitrary the Movie Algorithm is - that’s great news for me as that’s precicely what I went out of my way to create.

Hey, I wanna give a shout out to u/KoshyJoshy who inspired this afternoon’s movie by sharing a picture of their media collection. I liked how their shelves were arranged and I’ll be looking forward to when they get it back up and running - you can see it here if you’ve a mind to. I’m a fan of r/dvdcollection - some kind people hang out over there for true.
