Hey guys, first shipment from Amiami, how well do they pack the package for surface parcel? Should I do DHL so that it's safer?
Recently bought a pretty expensive figure (Alter jeanne d'arc). Is it safe to ship with surface parcel? The shipping cost is expensive af for DHL, but should I do it to prevent damage? Thank you!

I'd say yes, I've had 8+ orders come either Surface or Surface Premium and they've all been 100% ok, amiami packs really well. I've had both small and very large figures (prize figures all the way up to 1/4) ship those methods.
That being said, some folks do receive pretty beat up boxes sometimes (being stuffed in a shipping container on a boat for months). So, yes, the risk is greater with surface than DHL and there is a risk I suppose. I can only speak anecdotally for myself of course, but I've had no issues personally with surface shipments from amiami. In the end, you need to decide on the risk/speed-of-delivery vs cost.
That was very informative thank you! 🥰
Sometimes DHL does the package dirty as well, I used to load their vans for international shipping and we have a motto: package in the mind that it will withstand a 4 ft drop.
The way how we handle packages is, the bigger the box, the better it is for box dunnage to prevent box damages. Surface does this quite well. However, Amiami will try to fit your box in the smallest packages possible in order to reduce DHL shipping cost.
So lesson is, DHL will cost you more and your packages will be more likely to get damaged. Surface is cheaper and has better padding, but the package might get lost at sea(literally and figuratively).
Shoot, have people had a lot of their packages lost through surface?
There was ONE incident last year but it's rare nowadays
RIP to all our waifus who were lost at sea.
In all honesty, most damage is likely done after the package is handed off to whoever does the delivery rather than when on the ship because they use machines to sort (packages can get stuck in them, etc) and shipping employees aren't always gentle when handling packages. If a shipping container is properly loaded (and we know how meticulous Japanese workers are), there should be very minimal damage to the cargo inside it during transportation.
