Missing AMAs.

Everytime i scroll past an AMA post it is from 12 hours ago and the discussion has ended.

Wtf?

If you're referring to r/IAmA, then you can either check out the new page to see the most recently posted AMAs or refer to the sidebar where they have a calendar of scheduled posts along with links to send you a reminder.

We’ve really peaked with high level discussion here

I'm not surprised by the post, but I am surprised it's being upvoted.

The specifics of this post might be of limited value but I do think it's highlighting a more general problem with the default feed/home page/whatever that Reddit presents if you're logged in and go to reddit.com (which I'm guessing is how a bunch of people use the site).

Because you get one result per subreddit (assuming you're subscribed to multiple subs) in the first x results it's really easy to miss stuff, and instead you get quite stale results which (for me anyway) are often 11 hours old, 12 hours old, 20 hours old, 8 hours old, etc. Essentially you get a "post of the day" which in theory should be good, but often gives you a warped perception of a sub. For example, on my home page the 3rd story is about a streaker at a football match (from r/soccer, 11 hours old). There's not much to discuss either way but even if there was the main conversation is over and the post is only tenuously related to football (soccer) anyway. Or from r/skeptics, the most popular story each day will often be something about US Politics particularly around QAnon. It's a fair enough topic of discussion but it's not the only topic yet it's what I see a disproportionate amount of days.

If I post to a sub then there is a good chance for the next day I will see newish posts (so I posted in r/DCAU recently and so my home page has a post from less than an hour ago). Otherwise, it's usually between 6 and 12 hours after something is posted will it show up. Given how news orientated Reddit is, that's a strange state of affairs.

Browsing by Hot is (slightly) better but that's not the default view and every time I click to go back to reddit.com it defaults back to "best" (unless I'm missing something obvious).

What I'd like is to be able to tweak my home page/default feed a lot more. For smaller discussion type subs I'd like to see threads much earlier in their lifecycle. And I'm happy to have multiple posts from some subs but not others.

And yes, of course I can browse the subs directly (which I do) but one of the benefits to a site like reddit was to give me a simple way to see a bunch of different topics. I don't really want to check r/buffy every hour on the off-chance someone has started a topic that I might want to contribute to.

I hate algorithms. Yes, I think the new one is slightly worse.

Yeah, thankyou

I suppose im just puzzled by the fact that pretty much the only sub that needs live interactions doesnt show up in my feed until 9, 11, sometimes 17 hours after they start.

But i seem to get updated on peoples latesr opinion on drake every 32 minutes on other subs.

Smaller subs are more likely to recommend you newer posts if you're there when they're posted. For a big subreddit like r/IAmA, every post in your regular feed will be at least a few hours old. As others have mentioned, going to the sub and sorting by new/top past hour/rising will give you more recent posts.

The nature of the sub itself operates inside reddit's home page sorting algorithm, the super-short nature of AMA sessions simply pan out.
A user has to do that shite manually. Zero coasting on that one.
Otherwise, enough folks inform the reddit admins about 'cold posts' or some term... things can change.

If you want to join in conversations, use new. If you want to read them, use best (the default).

They're showing just fine for me.
If they're missing.... how do you know that they are gone?

Best and Hot sorts are stagnant. Nothing new appears.
