Without Pain

Is this real, this reality of mine?

It feels real, but something's out of line.

Everybody is moving forward, embarking on their lives.

Yet here I have been stuck, just trying to figure out why?

My growth as a person has stagnated, I can't move past this place.

There is something I am missing, some tribulation I must face.

It's pain I am missing, I never let my self hurt.

I fear the pain of loss the most, so I keep all my feelings convert.

I can't come to love the person in the mirror, from this point I can't ascend.

There is nothing I paticularly hate, but to say I am happy would surely be pretend.

I wanted to always believe in free will, but in reality that's not what I see.

Free will can exist but it has a cost, truly nothing in life is free.

You have to be willing to bump heads, and at times lose friends.

Into the unknown you must go, you have to see this to the end.

Till eventually one day, you can look into the mirror and see.

The person staring back at me in the mirror, is finally me.

I appreciate the amount of honesty and emotion you've let into this poem. It can be quite daunting to share something so personal, at least for me it is. You should experiment with different ways that you could 'show' the raw emotion in your poetry rather than telling it. That being said though, I did find the bluntness of the wording in this poem to be confronting, which is a good thing!

Hello readers, welcome to OCpoetry. This subreddit is a writing workshop community -- a place where poets of all skill levels can share, enjoy, and talk about each other's poetry. Every person who's shared, including the OP above, has given some feedback (those are the links in the post) and hopes to receive some in return (from you, the readers).

If you really enjoyed this poem and just want to drop a quick comment, to show some appreciation or give kudos, things like "great job!" or "made me cry", or "loved it" or "so relateable", please do. Everyone loves a compliment. Thanks for taking the time to read and enjoy.

If you want to share your own poem, you'll need to give this writer some detailed feedback. Good feedback explains from your point of view what it was like to read the poem, and then tries to explain how the poem made you feel like that. If you're not sure what that means, check out our feedback guide, or look through the comment sections of any other post here, or click the links to the author's feedback above. If you're not sure whether your comments are feedback, or you have any other questions, please send us a modmail.

Self actualization is real scary for sure. The idea that nothing gets done until you actively try to do things is both obvious and daunting and I would like to believe everyone goes through that. From what i have been told "Your past makes you, but does not define who you are" lovely poem :)
