What a pretty piano. Can't wait till I have the money to own an upright.
I don't think I'll earn that much in a lifetime haha.
There are old free ones around all the time and they aren’t always garbage
There is almost no market for used uprights at least in the USA
Define garbage.
I "inherited" (Quotes because inherited implies value) an 1883 Steinway that is mostly original, it's going to cost me $19,000 to restore/rebuild it. It's beautiful and totally worth it to me because it was my mother's and grandmother's but I probably can't resell it for the cost to rebuild it. And while you can sit down and play a song on it, it stays "in tune" well (we're in Colorado and it's in a climate-protected home) we have to tune it flat to avoid problems.
Even though this was a free piano it will be far from free.
All I’m saying is you can find upright pianos in the USA that basically only need a tuning to be decent for free or a couple hundred bucks max
Beautiful! Did you restore it yourself? Were the restorations mainly cosmetic?
My family got this piano for 350€ from an aquaitance, but it was in horrible condition. There were keys missing, popped strings, one of the pedals wasn't working, lots of tea/coffee stains on the fall and on the top, the sound was horrible, and overall it was a mess.. They had it for generations and they just used it as a decoration. The color was also faded so with all the problems that we had to solve, my dad decided to contact a professional to do it for us.
350 € for that condition? In my country we can buy better ones for under 100 €. Edit: But really nice job on the restoration tho.
Under 100 € ??? You're so lucky! We have cheaper pianos here in my country, all the soviet stuff, Krasny Oktyabr, Ukraina, Belarus... but I find their sound to be a bit too *sharp* and I'm not a big fan. I don't think I would've gotten the piano for that price if I were a beginner, but I've been playing for 12 years now and I've really started enjoying my sessions more with this one, so I (and my family that actually got the piano lol) don't regret the splurge!
They are under that price, but I haven't bought one. The repair would cost so much, because strings are missing and stuff. I bought a digital piano instead even tho I'm in love with upright pianos.
You typically buy pianos this beautiful for that price? This is the most gorgeous piano I’ve ever seen.
To be honest, even with the stains, the original wood( it was painted white during the restauration process) was really pretty. The flower carvings were still there and it really felt like it had a story and personality, like, I just imagined how many people sat near it and how many happy moments this piano was a part of. Maybe I'm overthinking but I really thought it was gorgeous even before the restauration (even if the sound was cursed lol).
He bought this in a bad state I think. Without restoration it wouldn't look like this.
And how much did the professional charge you? I have a piano in terrible condition and I’m quite curious
I'm from the Republic of Moldova and I think that prices may wary where you live. The restauration was definitely an investment, it was around 1000-1250 euros, which I thought is good after researching Ed. Seiler pianos and seeing that most of the uprights are between 3500-13000 euros. For tuning some guys here charge around 40-50 euros.
Well worth it. Gorgeous piano!
Ohhh really nice price indeed! Mine isn’t as damaged as yours was I think
Looks like what the rag time players at Disney would play on.
Nice!
Pretty
Absolutely beautiful!
Beautiful! I'd love to have an acoustic again. Maybe in a few years I'll buy a standalone home and can have one. I own a condo and share a wall on one side with neighbors so it will be all digital at home until then.
I feel the neighbor problems. I live in a flat and, even If I play at reasonable hours, sometimes they bang on the ceiling... or floor... or wall.... anyways!! But there are nice neighbors that compliment my playing when we meet in an elevator, which feels nice.
Beautiful
Have you tried to cover the soundboard with a thick quilt or blanket. Also you can put towels or cloth in between the soundboard and the wooden beams. You will need to turn turn the piano so you can experiment until the sound is not too muffled and not too loud. Most of all enjoy!
Yes I love those flowers. It's just the perfect tone of gold to go with the white of the piano. Very well done.

That has been restored splendidly! I do not normally like white pianos , but the gold painted patterns against the white makes me love this one. Is this an old German ED Seiler or one of the modern ED Seiler pianos ? Just love those those shell like designs. Thanks for showing ! Does she still play well ?
I tracked the age by serial number, but different sites give me different results. It is estimated between 1840-1875, but the guy that restored it said its from around 1920 so I'm not sure. The sound it very rich, i don't know how to describe it but it sounds very open and resonating and clear. The flowers are probably my favourite part!
gorgeous piano! how does it sound?
I love the sound! It's not too sharp/clanky(idk the right word) but it isn't muffled or *dirty* soudning (again don't know the word for it haha). When I know my neighbours next door are out of town I open the top so it can resonate more, idk if that's actually a thing but I love this feeling when i finish a piece and there is still a small echo.
What a beauty!
That is gorgeous
