Man this makes me want to own a Rolex just for the immensely complex mechanics of the watch. Too bad they’re insanely expensive.

Don't have to get a Rolex for that. Any mechanical watch will have similar complexities.

Yup I was under the impression that due to the high cost you also got high precision/accuracy watch movement. Then I went down a SUPER expensive rabbit hole of finding out how watches work and what’s required of them and who makes the best etc. I think I’ll be buying a mechanical automatic watch in my near future but nothing like a Rolex or Zenith Defy series. But man I’m intrigued. It’s like I became an instant horological enthusiast and it’s consumed my whole morning.

This recently happened to me. Standard entry level option (under $100) is the Seiko 5. I have an snk809 I got for like $80. Cadissen makes a well reviewed automatic mechanical watch for around $60. Tons of other good options in that price range too that will scratch the itch without shattering your bank balance.

Oh- and they keep similar time to higher end watches. +/- 10 seconds a day is considered fine for most mechanical watches, so you need to reset every couple weeks or so.

I was just looking at the black SNK805! So yeah I’m the same wavelength as you apparently. Also my brother owns one and says unless you plan to wear it everyday and are pretty active expect to get watch rotator/winder.

It's always fun to learn that even the fanciest mechanical watches simply aren't as accurate as a cheap quartz watch, much less one with a tiny computer that can synchronize to accurate clocks over the internet.

I have a small collection of mechanical watches, but none of them are as light or as useful as my Apple Watch. While they look cool, but I don't often wear them daily because they simply aren't as practical.

Yup I have an Apple Watch (have since Gen 2) and love it.

People are saying it's staged. Just dirty for the video, not found in a lake or anything.

That was my first thought. I'm not a clock master, but a patineur. I specialize in making things look aged. This just looks like someone packed the cleanest mud I've ever seen on it and broke the face.

I was thinking it could be flood damage.

Anybody know what that liquid is they soaked the dial in? Pretty impressive that it didn't lift the printing from the dial.

Looked like an ultrasonic cleaner

"Damaged" is putting it mildly. That's a damn archaeological find

Edit: Not sure why I'm being downvoted, it looks like it was dug out of the ground! Thing is absolutely encased in dirt.

Not quite.
