Lasik Monovision for 15 years, no longer happy. I want to adjust both eyes for Near Distance only. Yes/No?

Hello readers,

49 year old male, had monovision PRK performed at 34. I haven't been satisfied with it for a few years now - monovision works for me. I wear bifocals and cheaters with this prescription:

OD -1.5/-0.5/+1.25OS +.25/-.25/+1.25

When reading without lenses, I often squint my distance eye shut, and miss the clarity of binocular vision that I get with my readers on. When driving at night or watching telly - the distance lenses are on.

I just don't like monovision any more.

My preference is to adjust for the near vision, because that's where I spend my time. Is it a wise choice to adjust *both* eyes for near vision? I'm a cybersecurity professional that lives and works on paper and screens. I figure I'll do lens replacement in the future, but not now.

My clinic finds this an unusual request, stating that almost everyone defaults to distance vision and sticks with readers.

  1. Who has experience with both eyes adjusted for near distance only? Are you happy?
  2. What about the longevity of the procedures; will my presbyopia progress as I age?
