Is it possible to put TV shows and Movies in one collection?

Solved

I would like to add WandaVision and Falcon and the Winter Soldier into my Marvel collection. Is this something that can be done?

Yes. Add a collection to TV with the same name as the collection in Movies and when you open it they will be joined.

I literally just did this! Love that collections can connect like this. I have an MCU collection in both libraries and a Star Wars collections in both libraries. You can also add videos from movie and TV libraries to the same playlist. I meticulously created a Star Wars playlist of canon shows and movies in in-universe order. It is 270 items and over 5 days long. I'm hoping my 20-month-old son will thank me some day.

I did this with Star Trek, but by the date that the episode/film takes place in, so you start out with a bunch of time travel episodes where they're back in time. It put the whole thing in a new light for me, and it gave me a new appreciation of Enterprise. I'm finally up to TOS!

This is amazing.

It’s great to make a playlist like this but isn’t it a nightmare to use? You have to remember where you are in the playlist every time.

That never used to be the case. The fact that it is is the main reason I don't use playlists any more. They used to show watched/unwatched status just like everything else does, so it was easy to find where you were. No idea why they changed that. It makes playlists completely pointless as far as I'm concerned.

Yup, it's pretty terrible from that aspect. I have to scroll relatively slowly from the top on my android tv, and I write the episode number that I stop on down. Still easier than any other method I've found, though.

Just use watched status to judge where you got to last time.

Wait, so you've manually edited every episode and movie to have an airdate that reflects the time the episode is actually set in? Like the 23rd/24th centuries?

1

Ah, no. I just added them to a playlist in the order that they were set in. However, I don't think it's meant to have playlists that long. Once they were all added, it wasn't letting me adjust the order, so I had to start over and add them in the order that they were set in, so they wouldn't need to be rearranged.

Does that include the animated stuff?

Yes, Clone Wars, Rebels, Resistance.

Isn’t it a pain having to navigate to where you were in the playlist every time?

See, I'm more the "organize things in Plex" type of person rather than "actually watch what I have in Plex" type of person.

Love this, I'm gonna get on it.

What I don't like is the collections are delegated to each library. I have an MCU collection but I don't want the access the collection via movies or TV Shows. I want to collections to readily accessible and displayed like my libraries. Ideally they should be in the side bar with the rest of the pinned items.

Just separate those collections into their own libraries then.

How?

Same principle as creating any other library.

You would need to put those movies in a separate folder on your drive for each collection. Then in Plex create the library and point it to the directory with those movies.

I have multiple libraries to keep certain media segregated. I have Movies, TV Shows, Documentary Features, Documentary Series, Animated movies and shows, Anime movies and shows, Sports and some other specific categories. I find it more intuitive than tagging everything or creating separate collections in Plex.

You should also be able to pin collections as rows on the home screen.

Granted I don’t know how their code base and development cycles are structured, this sounds like a relatively easy, but such high value added change.

Exactly what I was looking for, thanks!

Glad to help!

Not really the same though. You’ll have the 25 or so Marvel films then at the bottom it’ll show TV shows in their own group.

Would be awesome to actually see them combined in this list. In a few years when I look back I would love to see the shows interwoven with the movies, since that is what Phase 4 looks like. Right now I’m adding movie edits of each D+ show to my marvel movie collection.

If only we could select specific episodes or make a playlist with episodes in a specific order then it would be super helpful.

I'm not sure what you mean. I have playlists of episodes in particular orders. Like a Chronological one for Star Wars: The Clone Wars, or one of all the Thanksgiving episodes I have.

5
Space_Vaquero73•

Wha?! You can choose individual episodes for thanksgiving shows or Christmas shows! I have most of the Rankin Bass holiday specials and I’ve been dying to make playlists for my nephews. Can you choose shows from different series? Are you using an add on?

2
paulrharvey3Pauper of All Media•

Nope. Just select and add. The Rankin Bass ones are even easier; should be able to just pick the studio and they'll probably be the only ones to work with. Even easier would be putting them all in a Collection, then making a Playlist from that Collection.

3
Space_Vaquero73•

Thank You! I’ll have to try that soon. I’m totally excited to finally make a list for the Babylon 5 series and then fix all my Christmas and assorted holiday collections!

I was completely ignorant that this even existed and you may know already but there’s a TVDB entry for the Rankin Bass specials:

2
Space_Vaquero73•

Yeah that’s how I have them ordered but I wanted to make holiday specific playlist

Just go onto any episode and press add to playlist haha.

Yes. Just type the exact same collection title in both. However, you will have to add the collection metadata (poster, background, etc) separately.

I know two ways:

- having your items in same-named collections

- using Colima agent, (your movies will appear as a one episode TV show though)

What I do is put it like this say you have naruto shippuden with the episode i labeled them like this “naruto shippuden - 01x10 - episode title” and for the movie it would be “naruto shippuden - 00x02 - movie title” so far it has worked for me and when you go to the tv show it puts the 00 as in specials and than 01 as season 1.

Adding to a collection works for me on my iOS Apps and WebUI, but not on my Roku App.

How did you get WandaVision and FATWS rips in the first place? Is there a method to do it yourself or did you download it elsewhere?
