Itd be real nice if cops could just ya know, stop killing people

People kill people, cops don’t have any more of a tendency to kill than civilians. Imagine robbing a store that’s completely unrelated because of someone being killed in self defense.

Well, no. Even without the data and statistics or whatever.. I’ve never met a cop that wasn’t high on power. Whatever little dollop of power is given. They do what they want to with, often, little repercussion. They know that. Maybe they’re a little scared because things are changing, but they’re not stopping. I’m more scared when a cop is nearby than any other random stranger. People kill people because they’re crazy, they have broken moments, or maybe they’re evil, but that’s not even most people. Cops kill, hurt, arrest and harass people because they think it’s their right, and that’s most cops. Why else were they given guns? The system needs a change. I don’t agree with looting, though.

Metro Minneapolis is TENSE right now. Peaceful protests (as safely as possible) is legal and cool, in my book. Looting and riots, not legal and not cool.

ah so when the fascist police state is in full force what then do we do? politely ask them to stop brutalizing people?

👀👀 so we are finally acknowledging it as looting.

Even suburban stores like mine closed at 7 last night to be safe, and we're supposed to call some number before coming in today.

For anybody curious, a few counties had 7 pm curfews, which is why Target stores closed early.

Glad to see Target will acknowledge these CRIMES as what they are. Crimes, not protests or peaceful demonstrations. These are people taking their frustrations to the street in a non beneficial and completely uncalled for manner.

I’ll agree social change does need to occur in this country in some ways, but this is not how you get your message across. This does nothing positive for your cause and only creates a bad shade on those that are trying to create change in a positive way.

I hope Target as a “woke” corporation can see this and will not continue to condone this violence and merely brush it off as they did last year.

Bruh, what the fuck are you talking about?

Target never condoned looting. They said it was part of a much larger and much more important issue, and that we can always rebuild.

That’ll be the same statement tomorrow. And the time after that. And the time after that.

Exactly I don't think literally anyone is condoning or supporting looting, but failing to understand why it's happening doesn't help either. It's a multi-billion dollar corporation, we can rebuild.

Allowing it to continue to happen is enabling this kind of behavior. Sure we can rebuild but what is stopping it from just happening again. People will continue to take advantage of the opportunity and take what they want in the name of the cause(which they obviously don’t care about). It’s just like how target enables their guests to be pushy because once they do we are supposed to cave and “make it right”. To say that they arnt supporting it might be true but they most definitely are enabling it.

...how?

Like, do you not understand how batshit insane that sounds? Target has a huge investigation center, and around-the-clock monitoring. We cooperate with law enforcement should they apprehend anyone. What more would you like us to do? Should we just install remote controlled tear gas turrets in key choke points?

It ain’t Target that’s letting stores get hit. Your issues are with the police.

But that’s the problem why is it happening again this time, and the time after that, and the time after that. Part of the problem lies in enabling these kinds of things to happen by not pressing charges and holding people accountable for breaking the law.

Maybe my use of the word “condone” was not as intended. But until law enforcement feels comfortable enough to do their job in a safe, respectful, and dignified manner nothing will change.

Laws need to be enforced (humanly), we need to find a way to stop pitter-pattering around the issue and find a way that people will respect the laws and property. Whether that be of an individual or a corporation.

Target won't acknowledge that at all. They'll send out an email saying they "stand with the community" and sink endless dollars into rebuilding a store that (once again) will get burned and looted because people just can't seem to behave like adults.
