Need Help with a General RFHG echelon

So here is the general RFHG echelon I've been using to help with night battles and day battles. My problem is that even with similar quality of equipment and even with the m14 and sv at mod 2 the strength number seems to lag heavily behind and whenever it goes up against stronger enemies it gets wrecked. I haven't been able to use it to beat any of the night battle bosses from chapter 5 onwards, as well as cube+ and Deep Dive. I used to use gr mk23 as the hg, but switched her to my first mgsg echelon and replaced her with saa in the hopes of better damage. Are RFHG echelons supposed to have tanks? A lot of guides I've read seem to only have hgs and no tanks, but others say you need a tank but also don't specify whether an smg or sg is better, or how to place them. I'm in core hell right now and am reluctant to keep leveling different random hgs to see if they work. Any advice? How do I make a RFHG echelon that can actually work against higher level content? Thanks in advance.

HG ARE the "tanks", put HG with high evasion or defensive skills like welrod or PPK at the front and those with offensive buffs like grizzy at the back. Alternatively, you can maximize your firepower by using "offensive tanks" like M950A and mk23. Also, try to lvl up ur pistols and dummy link them to x4 first to boost their buff and survivability.

For the RF part, use those with a self buffing skill like m14. They are much more useful than one high power shot like sv98 in most cases. Also try to balance between RoF and damage.

RFHG teams tend to either avoid damage with active movement (kiting, withdrawing the frontline at the right time, and so on) or use fairy skills (Taunt, Twin, Beach fairy, etc) to delay the enemy while the echelon gets their skills online.

Rarely, you might see an SMG as a main tank, but that's situational (GFL's hardest content frequently asks you to get creative with echelon comps, so...keep an open mind).

Even with all that though, RFHG echelons are inherently glass-cannon compositions. They rely on putting out enough damage to avoid having to deal with the return fire, but are otherwise quite fragile. This makes team building RFHG echelons not as forgiving as other sorts of echelon, and more heavily relies on your skill both in and out of the fight.

General team building tips:

  • There are more good handguns than there are good rifles, and many of the best HGs prefer to buff from position 4 (the back-middle row). This is why you typically see two rifles, and three handguns in popular echelons.
  • Outside of shotguns, who prefer to be on the front row, keep the front row clear! This gives you space to actively kite the opposition, and just generally means they take longer to get to you.
  • Look out for the different types of rifle! Generally, they fall into three categories. Bamboo rifles have skills that fire a high damage shot. There are some situations where bamboo rifles should be deployed, but they're rare and Bamboo Rifles tend to struggle in hard content. More commonly used as the so-called 'generalist' rifles that buff their own damage or rate of fire (RoF). They see the most use, and are the most broadly useful. Finally, there are specialist rifles that have niche uses (though sometimes their niches are very common!).
  • So! Assuming you're focusing on generalist rifles, rifles with similar skills make good teammates! This is because they want similar to be teamed with similar types of handgun. M14, for example, buffs her own damage. This means she can accept a lot of RoF buffs without going over the attack speed cap of 116.
    • Another rifle who buffs their own damage, like Lee Enfield, also wants those RoF buffs and that makes her a natural teammate for M14.
    • Conversely, a rifle like WA2000 buffs her own RoF. If she were in a team comp with RoF buffing handguns (the sort of team comp that M14 and Lee want), she'll hit the attack speed cap and waste most of the buffs. Instead, while she might want some RoF buffs, she'd be happier with more damage buffing handguns in the mix.

Not an expert, but putting tanks into an RFHG unit is a bad idea

How do you keep them alive?

Well, you are supposed to kill the enemies before they can deal any significant damage

Oh, I see.

Also, you have SV98 in there, she's a lock on RF, M14 is an ROF RF, i would suggest putting ROF RFs together and apart from lock on ones
