Reading "Death" in TWOW is going to be different (Spoilers Extended)
I was discussing the Red Wedding with someone the other day and they mentioned how much harder it is on subsequent reads. Not because of what happens to Robb and Cat (which is hard every time) but the fact that you start to get to know and like the side characters and they no longer "random northerners" killed with the Starks.
For instance the first time I read the "Red Wedding" I thought I had to have read it wrong so I went and read it again, then got pissed and threw my book and didn't pick it up for a few days only to see GRRM "kill" Arya in the next chapter. Now that is all so "known" to me that when I'm reading I'm getting upset about Dacey Mormont dying or SmallJon Umber.
My point is now that we all have gotten to know many of these side characters and fall in love with them (for a decade) every single death is going to hit hard and crush souls.
We know TWOW is going to be a super dark book with lots of deaths, marriages and betrayals and due to the wait and increased side character buildup, many of these events are going to be so much more impactful than earlier in the series.
TLDR: GRRM's development of side characters, coupled with the length in time between book releases is going to make reading deaths in TWOW for the first time much different.
