[FAQ] Frequently Asked Questions for Season 1 (and 400 Days)
In an effort to help answer a lot of questions that get posted here each day, we'll be making FAQ threads pertaining to each game in the series. Afterwards, there will be a post with links to these threads, which will be added to the sidebar for easy reference.
These posts are to serve as references for people looking for answers to questions about the game's lore, story, characters, etc. This thread specifically will be focused on both Season 1 and the 400 Days DLC.
If you have any suggestions on something that should be added here, please see the pinned comment of this post.
#Season 1 FAQs
"What scrapped/unused content didn't make it into the final game?"
Unlike with next two games in the series, Season 1's plot was mostly straightforward and didn't go through any gigantic story overhauls. There is, however, and interesting amount of things cut from the game. Some of these include:
- A nightmare segment where Doug/Carley (whoever died in EP1) would taunt Lee on his decisions.
- Mark being killed during the bandit fight while Ben's teacher would be served as dinner.
- Lilly supposedly being planned to return in EP5.
This video from Youtube user InColdBlood discusses a lot of the content cut from Season 1. Additionally, Reddit user u/vivec1 uploaded various scrapped scenes that can be found in files. You can view them here or by watching this video.
”Is the Lilly from the games the same as the one in the comics (Lilly Caul)?”
They are not. HOWEVER, they originally were going to be the same character when the season started. This was later changed due to the *Road to Woodbury” novel released in late 2012, which went in-depth with Lilly Caul's backstory. This greatly conflicted with video game Lilly’s backstory and thus the two being the same was changed. In the original version of Season 1, the achievement for completing the chapter where Lilly leaves the group was originally called “Woodbury bound.” It was later renamed to “What now?” to reflect the change.
"What happened to Hershel and Glenn?"
Hershel and Glenn are characters that originated from the comic series. Since the games are in the same universe as the comics (unlike the TV show), they would later meet up with Rick Grimes a while after the events of A New Day, which takes place before Rick Grimes wakes up from his coma at the start of the comic series. To learn what happens to them after S1E1, either read the comic series or check out the wiki pages of [Hershel](https://walkingdead.fandom.com/wiki/Hershel_Greene_(Comic_Series\)) and [Glenn](https://walkingdead.fandom.com/wiki/Glenn_(Comic_Series\)).
"What's the deal with Jolene & the Save-Lots bandits? Also why does Jolene care about Clem so much?"
Jolene was an employee of the Save-Lots store prior to the start of the game. When the apocalypse first happened, she presumably took refuge in the Save-Lots along with her fellow employees. Over time, the other employees became barbaric and it is heavily implied that a few members raped/killed Jolene's daughter. This resulted in Jolene going crazy as seen when you meet her in S1E2.
Afterwards Jolene began spying on the Motor Inn group and took an interest in Clem, seeing her as another girl in need of protection like with her own daughter. At some point before S1E2, she snuck into the Motor Inn and stole Clem's hat, presumably to try and get on her good side later on. The Save-Lots bandits got their food from the St. Johns as part of a deal, so once they were defeated the bandits focused all of their attention on Lee's group.
”What’s the deal with the walkie-talkies?”
I’ve seen some confusion about the walkie-talkies used in the game, with some people even thinking that Glenn's walkie-talkie is the one that The Stranger uses. Glenn took his walkie-talkie with him to Atlanta when he left and it is never seen again in the games. The Stranger had his own walkie-talkie and was able to channel his connection to Clem's walkie-talkie whilst trying desperately to communicate with his lost son. Both Clem and The Stranger's walkie-talkies are left in the Marsh House at the end of Season 1.
”What determines who follows Lee at the end of episode 4?”
- Christa/Omid: Either show the group your bite or if you let Clem stay at the home with a gun during the Crawford operation.
- Kenny: If you were Kenny’s bro throughout the whole game then he’ll follow you without question. If you sometimes had Kenny’s back but not all the time, he’ll question if he should follow you; if this happens you’ll have to pick the ”Clementine is my family” for him to join you. If you basically never sided with Kenny once (“I don't know why you're looking over here, Lee”) then he won’t join you at all.
- Ben: Obviously you have to save him from the bell tower to even get this option. If Kenny is coming along with you then choose the “Kenny, deal with it” option when he complains about Ben coming, otherwise one of them will stay behind. When Ben asks what to do, pick “Clementine needs you” (or “Clementine stood up for you” if you brought Clem to Crawford). If you voted to keep Ben in the group back in Crawford, he will also join if you let him decide.
Whoever follows Lee in the end doesn't really change too much as you'll all be reunited when you return to the mansion anyway. There are however a few neat things depending on who went with Lee, like who chops off Lee's arm.
”Who are the two people Clem sees in the distance at the end?”
Christa and Omid.
(400 Days) “How do you get everyone to leave with Tavia at the camp?”
Here is a Steam guide explaining the specifics for each individual character
In a nutshell: you have to shoot Danny’s foot off in Vince’s story, steal the RV in Shel’s story, and at the very end of Tavia’s segment you have to pick the “you might find people you know” option.
That's all for now. Again if you have any suggestions on something that should be added here, please say so by replying to the pinned comment below. I'll probably get a thread up for Season 2 FAQs sometime next week.
