Might have bitten off more than I can chew for only my 4th 8track cassette repair.

This truckstop bootleg 8 track is going to be a problem. https://imgur.com/gallery/IvPhlvS

The previous cassettes I fixed just needed new pads and cleaning. I've been saving this one until I understood how the cassettes work. It jammed up months ago after about 1 minute of play.

I'm just sitting here staring at it.

It can be done if you are patient and have some time on your hands. My method is that I have a take up reel from a reel to reel deck I use to spool the tape on to, untangling as I go. Then, once I have all the tape on the reel, I spool it back into the 8-track. One thing that helps, I use a jewelry screwdriver with a end that rotates as a base for the reel when I’m putting it back together. That way I can wind the 8-track hub by hand and the reel will feed the tape as it’s needed.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. I have a take up reel that I'll use as you suggest.

yea ive had one unroll on the floor and i found the end clipped it wound it on a reel then using a clamp and pencil i carefully would it back on the wheel

its a bit of labor for a 50 cent item but its a hobby when i re connected the ends i made sure and pulled out a good 3 feet from the center it still tightened up maybe next time i'll do 4 feet out the center

i guess i got lucky i didnt end up putting it on backwards 50/50 chance
