Was surprised this toy robot could play music too.
2-XL rocking out! https://imgur.com/gallery/5lExkx4
Sounds about as you would expect, but not terrible.

somewhat embarrassed to admit i own 4 of these.
No way! First heard of them while searching ebay for 8track players. My hobby is fixing hifi gear to expand my stack, mostly tape decks etc. I'm not much on the zap zap knowledge needed to fix amps. Didn't know anyone in my small country town that had one of these when I was a kid. I have 4 of the carts. It's a fun toy I would have loved as a kid. Lucky there's a website with the manuals to download. What got you into them?
i starting collecting old reel to reel tape machines and such in the 90s. got into 8tracks when on a road trip w a friend in an old cadillac w a player. i’ve got thousands of tapes.
A road trip in a Cadillac old enough to have an 8track sounds amazing!
I have about 50 tapes. The 4 carts are for the 2-xl. Whenever I'm searching for 8 tracks there's always heaps of bands I've never heard of. It's also amazing how many Kiss and Aerosmith 8tracks there are in the world!
i got one they so missed the boat it being mono they could have had 8 choices like how they did with the cassette version
all the audios are available on the archive i just wish i had a recorder

That was my thought as I was playing with it, using all 8 tracks would have been amazing.
just for future people the jack on the front is the power jack even though it is a 1/8 mono earphone it uses the same adapter as the atari 2600
Good advice. I rigged one up to test from a headphone jack as you can see. Getting those dc adaptors with the old fashioned plug is not cheap.
I was a bit surprised there was no headphone jack at all.
well they have those crazy universal adapter that have the 4 probe ends the 2 size of barrel ends and 2 of the earphone types you can often find them for free in piles of other peoples cords
