After a dozen youtube videos, I upgraded my printer fans and motherboard. Can you hear a difference?

Somehow I misss the sound haha
Those bridges.... Satisfying AF
Wow so cool!
What fans did you use? And how hard would you say it was to install them?
I used noctuas for their silence and my familiarity with them from PC building.
You need to be able to solder the new fan wires onto the connectors, I had the tools handy and have done it before so it wasn't too bad.
The PSU fan was fairly easy, but know the precautions working around power supplies. I used a A6X25 noctua and only had to splice the connector to it, I used Scott Yu-jan's popular youtube video series on that one.
The hotend fan was a 4020 to match the stock fan's air output and I put in a 4010 to replace the motherboard fan. Both needed buck converters which you need to be somewhat familiar with measuring voltage or using a multimeter or buy the pricier ones that tell you the output
Can you share what video tutorials you followed?

I also watched a few others with general searching of "ender 3 fan upgrades" until I settled on replicating these

Total upgrade cost? (aprox)
About $80. Half was the silent board, with the fans there are cheaper and better alternatives for cooling but not as quiet. Silence was my goal due to my living situation currently
My understanding tests done with the same size as stock is not as efficient at cooling. Also need to change from 12 to 24V imo they are far to expensive. Have you redone your PID? I'd be interested the temperature difference between the 2 size fans. Don't get me wrong looks awesome and nice and quiet but my printer has its own room so noise is not an issue for me.
I saw some videos explaining not to use noctuas for the same reason, but they were only talking about a 4010, so I went with a 4020 which has higher efficiency and is okay for shorter print times
Not yet, I'm currently recalibrating the PID values trying to fine tune as much as I can now for better quality printing and extrusion. I'm running the auto test that seems to be recommended online. I have only printed in PLA so I'm slowly working my way to attempt PETG and replace the parts near the hot ends. The next prints will be calibration prints and slicer setting testing after that is done
Good luck with PETG it was very painful for me I was able to print with it. I'm looking to print car stuff with ASA.
I was this || close to not to buy a new upgrade, now I have to order noctua fans.
Order sunon fans off digikey, theres 24v fans that are almost as quiet as noctua fans
For real? Do you have a video of them running for comparison? I want to get silent fans like noctua but the 12v is putting me off.
I cant take a video untill around 7 or 8pm EST but I can just describe my experience. I have a 40mm noctua flx fan running off 12v and a sunon 30mm fan also running off 12v. The noctua fan is much quieter than the sunon fan running off 12v but the sunon has much more static pressure and airflow, dropping the sunon fan to 5v results in neither fan being noticeable while providing about equal airflow.
It would be easier to make a statiscal comparison because both fans provide detailed spec sheets that you can easily compare. Digikey has pretty much any spec you could need and noctua's specs are on their website. And if you dont like one sunon fan theres around 40,000 other choices. If you plan on replacing part cooling fans make sure to get a blower and not an axial fan. Axial fans cant build pressure like blowers can and it'll be much harder to neck a 40x40mm output of an axial fan down in comparison to the 10x15mm output of a blower.
Edit: Noctua fans aren't strong enough to cool hotends, they dont produce anywhere near the required static pressure. Similar spec'ed noctua and sunon fans will be similarly quiet.
I'm going to be replacing the part cooling fan with dual 5015 blower fans today. I might have to try replacing the hot end fan now.

I agree, not messing with buck converters would make it a lot easier to upgrade. The sunons would be a better choice, I have limited space so I wanted the quieter ones I knew of
Edit: The post on the ender3 subreddit here has good info on the fans
