How would you see an 'ideal' MMO?

Greetings, ladies and gentlemen.

Perhaps many of us, if not everyone here, at least tried to play MMOGs. So here I got some questionnaire for you, and the topic is quite banal: how would you see a 'dream MMO'?

Technically would it be:

  • A PC game? (Windows, Mac, Linux)
  • A console game? (Xbox-whatever, Playstation-whatever)
  • A game for handhelds (iPad included)?

If we speak of PC, should it rather be

  • Client-based?
  • Browser-based?

Regarding graphics, should it look

  • Realistic?
  • Cartoonish?
  • Conventional/'Lo-fi' (Minecraft, Dwarf Fortress)?

Which category would you enjoy more?

  • 'Theme-park', just make it bigger and more diverse;
  • 'Sandbox'; get me my open exploration and random content generation;
  • Hybrid of them both; (They say, Pathfinder Online is going to be the one. Well, God help them).
  • Well... any other options?

Regarding camera setting, would you rather have it as

  • A third person view?
  • A first person view?
  • Both modes on a par?

NB: Playing World of Warcraft in first person view is a chore, yet in the narrower spaces (caves, corridors, etc.) third person view doesn't impress too much either.

Genre-wise, should it be an RPG, an online universe (like Second Life) or something else? Please, share your thoughts on that.

Speaking of the game's general setting, would you rather have it:

  • Fantasy-themed?
  • Sci-Fi/Space-themed?
  • Steam- or Dieselpunk-styled?
  • Anything else? (Please, describe)

Should it be based on some well-known literature sources (for instance) or you rather have a 'perfectly' new universe, as far as it is possible at all?

User-created content: should there be any?

  • No, none.
  • Yes, basic (crafting, i.e. individual items for personal use or trade)
  • Yes, advanced (from creating small items to building complex structures, probably via collective effort).
  • Other possibilities.

NB: As far as I remember, availability of scripting tools for Second Life led to more than one griefer-fest. It would be interesting to see, if there a way to allow in-game scripting, whilst ensuring its fool/griefer-proofness, other than offering a predefined number of scripts and/or moderating newly created?

Regarding the in-game physics, should it be:

  • Realistic?
  • Alternate?
  • Simplified?
  • None?

How much dynamic must the in-game world be?

  • As little as possible, even static;
  • Partially static, partially dynamic;
  • Constantly changing;
  • Anything else.

Thank you for your opinions!

NB: this isn't really a 'marketing study', just a journalistic inquiry, but if any game developers here would find it useful, that would be just great.
