/r Atheism's thoughts on Buddhism

I am wondering what the /r Atheist community thinks of Buddhism. I have always thought that out of all of the religions, Buddhism is the most respectable. I admit, I don't know all of the details about it, but in it's basic form, they believe in personal self-mastery to live a better life--being humble, open and respectful of everything.

I'm sure there are various gods and deities involved in Buddhism, but the origin of Buddhism at least can be verifiability traced back to one person (Gautama Buddha) who started it. I think it's pretty cool to have a religion based off of things that actually happened and is all about being a humble, well-rounded person.

But maybe I'm missing the mark.

Edit: And their thoughts on "Rebirth" -- that when you die, your consciousness may end, but you will "wake up" as a new consciousness someday" -- is pretty close to what I believe happens when you die. Although, I differ in that you simply experience a new consciousness and have no recollection of a previous life.
