An Introduction
Konnichiwa. :)
I'm relic2279 and I help to moderate quite a few subreddits. The largest being either r/TodayILearned or r/Videos.
About me
I'm 32 years old, live in Cleveland, Ohio (main export crippling depression), I'm a big Browns fan and I do HVAC for a living.
Hobbies include.. reddit, spinning fire (not so much anymore, getting too old), traveling, watching movies and I'm a huge Japanophile. I would say weeaboo but I don't particularly watch much anime, I don't desire to be Japanese nor do I think everything Japanese is "sugoi". I'm more interested in the rich history, language, culture and cinema (idols don't hurt either).
On Mod Style
I think I have mixed views on modding because of my tenure and experience with certain subreddits. I think that some subreddits should rarely be touched except in the case of spam, and others need to be modded pretty strictly if they want to see success. I don't think a blanket style can apply to every subreddit and that some subreddits have specific needs which may require a firmer hand.
Other than the no politics rule, we have a general hands off policy in r/videos for instance, and it seems to work great. However in TIL, we have a strict (and perhaps complicated) set of rules which are vigorously enforced.
A majority of the rules in TIL were there early on, when the subreddit was tiny and not a default. I think that shooting for quality with strict rules early on helped facilitate our growth and made TIL what it is today.
(Also, a huge thanks to the mods over in TIL. I don't think anyone realizes how hard many of them work or have worked.)
Right now, my pet projects are either r/Weeaboo or r/AmericanHorrorStory. The former is probably a bit too niche for the average redditor but it's a topic I'm passionate about. :)
