response to Mathew 6:6
I'm a member of a popular Miami Dolphins forum and was browsing the latest threads when I came across a heated Tim Tebow debate. Someone brought light to the elephant in the room and stated point blank that people dislike Tebow because of his open faith. Another member drops Mathew 6:6 and my r/atheism senses were tingly. I was surprised when the following user responded with:
Psa.119:46 I will speak of Thy testimonies...and not be ashamed
Isa.40:9 Lift up thy voice with strength; be not afraid
Isa.62:6b Ye that make mention of the Lord, keep not silence
Mat.5:14-16 Ye are the light of the world...cannot be hid...let (it) shine before men (See also Mk.4:21 ; Lk.8:16 .)
Mk.8:38 Whosoever shall be ashamed of Me and of My Words...of him shall the Son of man be ashamed
Acts 18:9b Be not afraid, but speak, and hold not thy peace
Rom.1:16 I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ
Eph.6:18-20 (Pray)...that I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak
1Thes.2:2 We were bold...to speak the gospel of God
2Tim.1:8a Be not thou ashamed of the testimony of our Lord
Mk.16:15 Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel
Mat.28:19,20 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations
2Cor.5:20 We are ambassadors for Christ
Lk.12:8,9 He that denieth Me before men shall be denied
I'm not familiar with the bible so I don't know the context of these passages, but it now seems silly to try to use one line in Mathew to dissuade the faithful from moral grandstanding. Thoughts?
