My 'Moment' : The Thief, the Dagger, and the Party Dress
Hopefully people are still enjoying these stories; I know they're among my favorite posts on the subreddit. Very minor spoilers from the main questline.
Last night I was on my 37 Archer/Sneak/One-Hand Bosmer (on Master Difficulty), when I met my contact for the Diplomatic Immunity quest in Solitude's tavern. He insists that he can sneak some gear into the party I need to infiltrate, but the rest of my horde must stay behind. No worries, I think, so I hand over my set of Dragon Armor and Glass weapons (arrows included) and tell him I'll meet him at the Embassy. Heeding my co-worker's warnings about companions bugging out and disappearing during the quest, I send Lydia back to Whiterun, along with the several hundred pounds of extra armor and weapons she lugs about.
Stepping outside the Tavern into the night air I received the first inkling that I might have made a mistake. The local guards start hemming and hawing over my necklace, ring, and underwear outfit, so I sprint out of the city and make my way to Delphine for my party invitation. Whether she was commenting on my state of undress or otherwise, she hands me a disguise for me to wear to the party. A few seconds later I'm equipped and ready to leave for the mission. I start the conversation, but before she even responds she draws her sword and tells me to hang on for a minute. A screech flies above my head and I see another Elder Dragon has decided to cross me. No worries- let me press 2 and pull out my bow... Oh. Shit.
After a quick review of my inventory, I find myself staring down the beast with a Party Dress, some Jewelry, 250 pounds of potions and crafting material, and my fists. Well first order of business would be to pop a Frost Resist potion. Oh wait, Patch 1.2. Ok, Plan B: run and cower under the stables nearby till I figure out what to do. My hopes rise after seeing 5 Solitude guards show up and start peppering the Elder with their bows. Two squished guards later I figure I have to take matters into my own hands if I actually want to see this dragon drop.
A sprint over to the nearest guard corpse and now I'm wielding an Iron Bow and... 6 arrows. Well let's make some lemonade. I pop a Trueshot potion and shout Mark of Death at the beast as he perches on the nearby house, and unload my quiver while making my way to the next guard's corpse. What followed was a dance of diving behind cover, shouting at the dragon when it decided to stand still, looting the corpses of any fallen guards for more ammunition, and slowly whittling his health down with my 100 skill Archery Iron Arrows hit their mark.
The beast finally crashes to the ground, giving me the opportunity to dump my remaining arrows into his hide. But ~10% of his HP still remains, and he rears up, ready to breath on me again. The Skyrim theme begins to crescendo- let's do this. A quick check and all I have left is a stack of Iron Daggers. I exit my inventory for the final time, Iron Dagger in hand and a Fortify Health and One-Handed quaffed. A Whirlwind Sprint and a few slashes later, and I watch in slow motion as my elf in a party dress jumps on top of the dragons head and stabs it to death with an Iron Dagger. Motherfucking dragonborn.
TLDR; Handed over all my armor and weapons to a quest NPC and found myself wearing a party dress as a disguise. An Elder Dragon happens to swoop in above me, putting the quest NPC into combat. Several minutes of Dragon Shouts and running from guard corpse to corpse picking up Iron Arrows, the beast finally hits the ground and I watch a kill cam of my Wood Elf in a Party Dress piercing a dragon's skull with an Iron dagger.
