IAmA Intake Specialist at one of the country's largest animal shelters AMAA
I am the person responsible for getting all the animals that come in during my shift into the system, both for relinquishments and lost and found. I am also cross-trained as an adoption counselor, but prefer working intake (there's more need for it -- everyone wants to see the animals leaving, no one wants to see them coming in). I have to make sure all animals we get are safely put into a kennel -- no matter how aggressive or scared they are. I also get to name any animals that are unidentified (lost pets that are never claimed or dogs that are simply dropped off without any identification). I absolutely love volunteering here, but it does break my heart sometimes. AMAA.
