Help with a paper: What are two examples of either famine on the scale of the Irish Potato Famine or such a famine on the horizon and being avoided in the past 26 years?

The specific question isn't what I need help with. The question is to give at least two examples from current events (specifically: in my lifetime) and then discuss why I believe a famine on the scale of the Irish Potato Famine may or may not happen again.
