any advice on ending a relationship?

I've been with the same guy since I was 16 and it's been 7 years and I don't really want to be dating him anymore. I've never broken up with anyone before or had anyone break up with me so I was wondering if there was any advice anyone can give me for my first time.

I am ending the relationship, but he's pretty much my best friend and I still love him and don't want any suggestions that would be mean or hurtful to him.
