Reddit, I know we are upset about SOPA and Protect-IP. In fact, many of our favorite senators and representatives (most notably Sen. Franken) have come out uncharacteristically in support of this bill. Please, keep the calls up. Remind them incentives, not restrictions, are the way of the future.

Honestly, I think senators are blindly supporting these bills to build their repertoire of bills and don't know the consequences. Send your representatives letters and phone calls, and remind them of these things:

  1. This bill hurts the people and freedom of speech. It opens doors for abusing censorship.
  2. This bill allows for the equivalent of the Great Firewall of China
  3. Services like Spotify, Steam, and Netflix reduce piracy and companies like Ubisoft (which use heavy DRM) increased piracy. Reducing piracy is a noble goal, but these bills approach it in the wrong way.
  4. Ask for an official public statement from your congressmen explaining why they support SOPA or Protect-IP
  5. Explain how this bill is a deal-breaker for your vote.

Some good senators have come out in support of this bill. Let's remind them WHY we voted for them. We voted for them to represent US like they promised.

We can change Congress with our voice.
