Got stopped and charged with marijuana possession need help!

So I got stopped today near my University and got searched. Cops found 5 bags on me and slapped me with a "marijuana possession under". My question is if it will stay permanently on my records or if I merely have to do community hours. I got a court date next month. Should I have to contact a criminal lawyer for a small possession? BTW 4th year student that is going to start his 4th workterm. I'm praying it doesn't stay on my record or else I'll be so screwed.
